The Smith Township zoning inspector is an administrative public officials appointed by the township trustees. Residents considering improvements or alterations to existing structures should contact the zoning inspector.

The zoning inspector is responsible for:

  • Reviewing applications for zoning permits.
  • Conducting on-site inspections.
  • Investigating alleged violations.
  • Maintaining non-conforming use records.
  • Working with the Zoning Commission to keep zoning text and map current.
  • Proposing amendments to the zoning code.
  • Reviewing subdivision plats.
  • Cooperating with county building inspection departments. 



  • General fees: $3.00 per $1000.00 valuation ($25.00 minimum fee for anything under $5000.00 valuation) 
  • Residential valuations: $65 per sq. ft. 
  • Appeals, variances, and conditional use permits: $250 (non-refundable) 
  • Zoning change requests: $300 (nonrefundable)

  • Zoning map $2 
  • Miscellaneous requests: (fences, pools, home businesses, signs, etc.) $25
